Medford, OR – Freezing fog and stagnant air are creating hazardous conditions across southern Oregon, with advisories extending through Thursday morning. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution as visibility may drop below a quarter of a mile overnight, especially in valleys.

According to the National Weather Service, the freezing fog advisory will remain in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday. An air stagnation advisory continues until 10 a.m. Thursday, impacting areas including Medford, Grants Pass, and Rogue River. Residents can expect nighttime fog to combine with poor air quality, posing health risks to those with respiratory conditions.

Low wind speeds and strong valley inversions are trapping pollutants near the surface, further degrading air quality. High-pressure systems could sustain stagnant conditions into the weekend.

Weather Outlook:

Tuesday Night: Widespread freezing fog, low around 30°F.

Wednesday: Patchy fog early, then sunny with a high near 43°F.

Thursday: Areas of fog before 10 a.m., mostly sunny later with a high of 52°F.

Friday: Clear skies, high of 45°F.

Saturday: Sunny and cool, high near 43°F.

Drivers should turn on low-beam headlights and maintain safe distances from other vehicles. The NWS advises delaying travel if possible during freezing fog. Additionally, residents are encouraged to limit wood burning and use alternative heating to reduce pollutants.
