Medford, OR – A powerful winter storm is bringing significant snowfall to Southern Oregon and Northern California, with hazardous travel conditions expected through Monday night. Higher elevations could see over a foot of snow, particularly east of the Cascades and around Siskiyou Summit.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, an atmospheric river combined with a stationary front is fueling the storm. Snow accumulation is expected to be heaviest above 2,000 feet, with up to 11 inches possible in parts of Josephine County, including areas along Highway 46. Lower elevations could see 1 to 2 inches.
In California’s Siskiyou County, snowfall is forecast to range from 2 inches at lower elevations to 12 inches in the mountains. Areas along Interstate 5 and Highways 96 and 3 may experience dangerous driving conditions.
Motorists are urged to slow down and check road conditions before traveling. Oregon drivers can visit tripcheck.com, while California travelers should check quickmap.dot.ca.gov for updates. The storm is expected to continue into Tuesday, with shifting intensity and elevation impacts.
