Portland, OR – A cold weather advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday for the Greater Portland Metro area, the Willamette Valley, and surrounding regions. Residents should prepare for temperatures between 20°F and 25°F, with wind chills near 25°F in some areas.

The National Weather Service reports that gusty easterly winds of 25-35 mph are expected through the Columbia River Gorge, impacting cities like Troutdale, Gresham, and Vancouver, WA. Other affected areas include the Coast Range valleys, the Cascades’ foothills, and parts of southern Washington.

The cold poses a significant risk of hypothermia for those exposed to low temperatures without proper clothing. Residents are advised to dress warmly, cover exposed skin, and avoid wet conditions that can exacerbate body heat loss.

Pets and livestock should be protected from the elements, and pipes in unheated areas should be insulated or allowed to drip to prevent freezing.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly after 10 a.m. Thursday, though cold weather may persist in shaded areas or higher elevations. Stay updated through local weather alerts.
