Pendleton, OR — Temperatures across eastern Oregon are expected to plunge tonight, with lows in many areas dropping into the teens and single digits. Highs on Monday will struggle to climb above freezing, marking one of the coldest nights this winter.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, clear skies and northward airflow will contribute to the sharp temperature drop. Overnight lows could dip as low as 9°F in Pendleton, with areas like La Grande and John Day seeing similar frigid conditions. Wind chill values may make it feel even colder.

Freezing fog is expected to develop late Sunday into Monday morning, reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions. Residents are advised to use caution when driving, especially in areas prone to ice buildup.

Daytime highs on Monday will reach only the low 30s, keeping much of the region under sub-freezing conditions. The cold spell will persist through Monday night, with temperatures again dropping into the low 20s.

Residents should take precautions to protect outdoor pipes, pets, and vulnerable individuals. Layers of warm clothing are recommended for those spending extended periods outdoors. Updates can be found on the NWS website and local weather alerts.
