Pacific Northwest Braces for Winter Storm, Up to 30 Inches of Snow Expected Through Saturday

Seattle, WA – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Cascade Mountains, warning of up to 30 inches of snow from Thursday evening through Saturday afternoon at elevations above 3,000 feet.

According to the NWS, the storm will impact the West Slopes of the North, North Central, and South Central Cascades, including Snoqualmie Pass, Stevens Pass, Mount Baker Ski Area, and Crystal Mountain Ski Area. Snow levels will fluctuate, starting at 2,500-3,500 feet Thursday night, rising to 4,000 feet Friday afternoon, and then dropping to 2,000 feet Friday night. Snoqualmie Pass will see a transition from snow to rain Friday afternoon before shifting back to heavy snowfall Friday night.

Travel could become dangerous, with rapidly deteriorating road conditions. Drivers are urged to carry chains and check road conditions before heading into the mountains.
