Pittsburgh, PA – Residents in western Pennsylvania should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions starting Saturday as a cold front moves into the region. Rain, snow, and freezing temperatures are expected to impact travel and outdoor plans throughout the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, rain and snow are forecast to begin early Saturday, transitioning to snow by afternoon as temperatures drop. Areas along and north of I-80 may see up to two inches of accumulation. South of Pittsburgh, brief periods of rain or a mix may limit snow totals.
By Saturday evening, temperatures will plunge into the teens, creating slick roads and icy sidewalks. Any standing water from earlier precipitation is expected to freeze overnight, posing hazards for drivers and pedestrians alike. Authorities urge caution on roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, where ice is more likely to form.
Sunday will bring another chance of snow, with lake-effect showers moving into the region. Highs will struggle to reach 25°F, and overnight lows will drop into the single digits. The frigid conditions are expected to persist into early next week, with the coldest day predicted for Monday when highs will peak at just 10°F.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for extended periods of cold. Ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and stock up on essentials to minimize travel. Spotters are asked to report significant snowfall to the National Weather Service for better tracking.
Plan for delays and stay updated with local forecasts to navigate these changing conditions safely.
