Harrisburg, PA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of central Pennsylvania from Saturday morning through early Sunday, with mixed precipitation expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in State College, areas including Harrisburg, Gettysburg, State College, Williamsport, and Altoona will see snow accumulations up to two inches, along with ice accumulations ranging from one-tenth to three-tenths of an inch. The advisory affects multiple counties, including Dauphin, Lebanon, Cumberland, Centre, Lycoming, and Blair.
The storm will begin as light snow or sleet Saturday morning before transitioning to freezing rain in the afternoon. Areas on higher elevations and ridgetops could see more significant icing, leading to downed tree limbs and isolated power outages. The advisory ends at 1 AM Sunday for most areas, but in northern Pennsylvania, it will last until 9 AM Sunday.
Travel Impacts:
• Icy roads will make driving hazardous, especially Saturday afternoon and evening.
• Slippery sidewalks and untreated surfaces could pose risks to pedestrians.
• Power outages remain a concern in rural and elevated areas due to ice accumulation on trees and power lines.
Residents should limit travel, use caution on roads, and check Pennsylvania’s 511 road conditions service for updates. Warmer temperatures by Sunday afternoon should help improve conditions.
