Person shot dead in quiet Southern California neighborhood
One person is dead, and another has been taken into custody after a fatal shooting in a residential San Bernardino County neighborhood.
Details are limited and it’s unclear just exactly how gunfire erupted, but the Fontana Police Department responded to reports of the shooting in the 6700 block of Winter Night Court just before 4 p.m.
At the scene, officers located a person inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound, police confirmed to KTLA, while a suspect in the shooting was immediately detained.
Aerial footage of the Fontana home captured by Sky5 showed several police vehicles in front of the house, with yellow tape cordoning off access to it while investigators interviewed possible witnesses and scoured the area for evidence.
KTLA’s Gil Leyvas reported that there was a body, likely that of the victim’s, on the ground in the garage. Investigators, however, have yet to confirm that information.
It is unclear if the victim was declared deceased at the home or was taken to the hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Officials stressed that there was no continuing threat to the public and were unable to provide any additional details, such as the victim’s and suspect’s identities, whether they were known to one another and a possible motive in the deadly shooting.
