Ranger programs cut, visitor centers closing earlier at Sequoia, Kings Canyon
Operating hours have been cut by nearly 50% at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park’s museum and visitor centers; park staff say all ranger programs are also canceled until further notice.
The Foothills Visitor Center, the Kings Canyon Visitor Center, and the Giant Forest Museum used to be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As of Friday, the three are only open on select days from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Foothills Visitor Center and the Giant Forest Museum have each reduced their operating hours by 20 hours a week. The Foothills Visitor Center is now open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the Giant Forest Museum is now open Friday to Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Kings Canyon Visitor Center experienced the greatest impact – it’s now open less than 50% of the time. Visitors can stop by Thursday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Park staff say all ranger-led programs are also canceled until further notice.
