Sacramento Weather Alert: Up to 2 Feet of Snow, Strong Winds in Sierra Nevada

Sacramento, CA – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon Friday for Western Plumas County, Lassen Park, and the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada, with heavy snowfall and damaging winds expected.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento, snow accumulation could reach 8 to 18 inches, with higher elevations seeing up to 2 feet. Winds could gust as high as 75 mph, causing dangerous travel conditions, low visibility, and possible road closures.

The heaviest snowfall is expected Thursday evening into Friday morning, with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. The storm is likely to impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes, with chain controls and hazardous conditions expected. Strong winds may also lead to extensive tree damage.

Travelers should check road conditions through Caltrans at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or by dialing 511 before heading out. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for possible power outages.
