San Francisco Police Nab Suspect in Union Square Stabbings

In a series of violent incidents near Union Square in San Francisco on a Sunday morning, four individuals fell victim to attacks, all within a span of less than an hour, as confirmed by the San Francisco Police Department.

These alleged assaults took place along Market Street and involved a combination of one assault and three stabbings, reportedly carried out by a single perpetrator, according to a news release issued by the police on Wednesday.

The first incident occurred just past 7:30 a.m. on the 800 block of Market Street, where an elderly adult male was discovered with facial injuries resulting from an apparently unprovoked attack. Eyewitnesses informed law enforcement that the victim was in a wheelchair when he was assaulted by an unidentified assailant who quickly fled the scene. During the attack, a bystander intervened to assist the injured man. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after this incident, at 8 a.m., police responded to a report of a stabbing near Market and Battery streets. A man claimed he had been stabbed by an unknown assailant wielding an unfamiliar object before the perpetrator fled along Market Street. According to the San Francisco Police Department, this man was the first target of the suspect’s attacks, but he waited until he reached a safe location before contacting the authorities.

At 8:05 a.m., law enforcement was summoned to the 800 block of Market Street once again, this time for another stabbing. The same suspect reportedly approached a man on the street and stabbed him before making his escape. The injured man was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The fourth and final attack unfolded around 8:10 a.m. on the 900 block of Market Street. During this incident, the suspect allegedly attempted to rob a man, resulting in a stabbing. As per the SFPD, the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers at the scene managed to apprehend the suspect as he was walking away with a “fixed blade-edged weapon,” subsequently taking him into custody, as outlined in the official release.

The suspect has been arrested and booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of three counts of stabbing and aggravated assault, according to the police.

The San Francisco Police Department has declared that these attacks remain under active investigation and has encouraged anyone with pertinent information to reach out to the department at 415-575-4444.
