Saturday’s rain chances are increasing throughout Southern California

Temperatures are expected to ramp up in Southern California next week as May approaches, but the region is likely to receive a rinse first.

Rain could roll in as early as Friday night and stay through the morning on Saturday, though totals were predicted to stay low.

According to the National Weather Service, less than one-half of an inch of rain is expected in most communities south of the central coast. They include:

  • .34 inches in Thousand Oaks
  • .25 in Santa Clarita
  • .24 in Los Angeles
  • .21 in Redondo Beach
  • .17 in Covina

Estimates in Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, aside from the mountains, were expected to remain below .15 inches according to the NWS. Mountain areas could reach about .25 inches in rainfall.

Isolated, unpredictable showers could linger into Sunday in some areas like the Inland Empire, but totals would remain low.

Meanwhile, Monday was expected to see the start of a ramp up in temperature.

“It’ll feel a lot more like spring after all once we get into the forecast next week,” KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins said.

By Tuesday, temperatures could reach the 80s in the Inland Empire and mid-to-high 70s in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Maximum temperatures aren’t likely to exceed that initial high, however, leading into a potentially comfortable and sunny first weekend of May.
