Charleston, WV – A winter storm will bring freezing rain from the Midwest to the northern Mid-Atlantic starting Wednesday. The system is expected to last through Thursday, creating hazardous travel conditions.
According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, there is a 30-60% chance of ice accumulation exceeding 0.25 inches in western Maryland, the West Virginia Panhandle, and parts of Pennsylvania. This could lead to scattered power outages and tree damage. Lighter freezing rain will extend across the Midwest and Great Lakes, making roads slippery.
Even minor ice accumulation can create dangerous driving conditions. Officials advise checking road conditions before traveling and using caution.
