A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. for Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Gardnerville, Virginia City, and Verdi. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of downed power lines, tree damage, and difficult travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles on I-580 and US-395.

According to the NWS, southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will persist throughout Monday, with stronger gusts possible in exposed areas. Widespread power outages are expected, and residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and loose objects.

By Tuesday, the strong winds will subside, but rain will move into the area. Snow levels will start around 7,400 feet in the morning but could drop to 6,800 feet overnight as temperatures cool. Highs will reach the low 50s, with a 90% chance of precipitation. Mountain areas could see a mix of rain and snow, though little to no accumulation is expected.

Tuesday night will be colder, with lows in the upper 20s. Rain will continue, possibly transitioning to snow at elevations near 5,400 feet. Winds will remain breezy, with gusts up to 20 mph.

Midweek Forecast: Rain and Snow Chances Persist

Wednesday brings a chance of rain and snow showers early in the morning, then drier conditions with highs in the upper 40s. Another system will arrive Wednesday night, bringing another round of rain and snow, with lows in the mid-20s.

By Thursday, another mix of rain and snow is expected before temperatures warm slightly heading into the weekend.

Residents should stay weather-aware, avoid unnecessary travel in strong winds, and prepare for changing conditions throughout the week.
