According to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, a jury in Kern County found a man guilty on Wednesday of shooting at his girlfriend at least nine times and killing her.
Samuel Brown was found guilty of first-degree murder because he shot and killed Shavonna Wilson in the parking lot of a hotel.
A news statement said that law enforcement officers found Brown the same day, but the suspect didn’t stop and led the officers on a chase.
A news statement said that when police stopped Brown, they found one pound of methamphetamine in his car.
Jurors also found Brown guilty of assault because he broke into a house near Shafter and Wasco and beat a 70-year-old man in a separate incident.
A news release said that the victim and a friend saw Brown driving a U-haul on the land and tried to stop him with a pickup truck.
The news statement said that Brown then punched the 70-year-old man many times.
The jury found Brown guilty of murder, drug possession, weapons possession, and trying to steal a car. On June 23, he will get his sentence, which could be 123 years in jail.
