Shooting Incident at Jacksonville ‘Celebration of Life’ Event: 3 Injured

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has reported that three individuals were shot during a gathering held in a Riverview neighborhood, described as a “celebration of life event.” The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when two suspects approached a crowd of approximately 100 people and opened fire.

According to the JSO, the event was taking place at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Campus Avenue and was in its final stages around 5:00 p.m.

The suspects, both males dressed in black, approached on foot from a distance of 30 yards and began shooting into the crowd. It is currently unknown whether their faces were covered or if the shooting was a targeted attack.

Fortunately, the event organizer had hired armed security, and either the security personnel or an attendee reportedly returned fire, causing the suspects to flee on foot.

The JSO is actively investigating the incident to determine the source of the gunfire. Approximately 59 evidence markers were identified at the scene. Three individuals who were shot have been transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Detectives specializing in violent and robbery crimes from the JSO are present at the scene, conducting interviews with multiple witnesses to gather more information.

As of now, the suspects involved in the shooting remain at large. The JSO has assured the community that there is no immediate threat to their safety.
