Minneapolis, MN – A powerful Arctic front is expected to bring dangerous snow squalls across the Upper Midwest and into New England from Tuesday night through Wednesday, creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow squalls will develop Tuesday evening in Minnesota and move southeast through Wisconsin and Michigan overnight. By Wednesday, the system will track across the Great Lakes, Upstate New York, and into northern New England, bringing sudden whiteout conditions, gusty winds, and flash freezing on roadways.

Officials warn that snow squalls can rapidly reduce visibility and make travel treacherous. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and pull over safely if conditions worsen. The highest risk for intense squalls is early Wednesday morning, particularly in areas east of the Great Lakes, where snowfall rates may be heavy.

The NWS advises motorists that there is no safe place on a highway during a snow squall and encourages travelers to monitor weather updates and plan accordingly.
