Denver, CO – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Colorado, beginning Friday evening and lasting until early Sunday morning. Areas within the advisory are expected to see significant snowfall, leading to hazardous travel conditions.
According to the NWS, snowfall will begin after 5 p.m. Friday for higher elevations, including Rabbit Ears Pass and Rocky Mountain National Park. Accumulations in these areas could reach 6 to 12 inches by 5 a.m. Sunday. Lower elevations between 6,000 and 9,000 feet, such as Estes Park and Nederland, will see 4 to 9 inches of snow starting at 9 p.m.
The Northern Front Range Foothills, including Red Feather Lakes, are also under the advisory. Travel is expected to be treacherous, with snow-covered roads persisting throughout the weekend.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and check road conditions via 511 or cotrip.org before heading out.
The Winter Weather Advisory underscores the need for preparedness as Colorado faces widespread impacts through Sunday morning.
