Snowstorm Warning: Up to 10 Inches for Northern California Mountains Through Wednesday Morning

Eureka, CA – A prolonged atmospheric river is bringing intermittent periods of heavy snow to Northern California, with travel impacts expected through midweek. Snow levels will drop rapidly below 2,000 feet by Monday as a cold front moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Northern Humboldt, Southern Humboldt, and Southern Trinity counties. Snow will begin late Monday night, with 3 to 10 inches possible at higher elevations, including Berry Summit, Hayfork Summit, and South Fork Mountain. Lower mountain passes, including Highway 36 and Highway 299, could see 1 to 4 inches of snowfall by Tuesday morning.

The advisory is active from 10 p.m. Sunday until 4 a.m. Wednesday for Northern Humboldt and from 4 a.m. Tuesday until 3 a.m. Wednesday for Southern Humboldt and Southern Trinity. Chain restrictions may be implemented, and travel could be hazardous in affected areas.

Snow levels will remain low throughout the week, with heavier snowfall possible Wednesday and Thursday. Drivers should check Caltrans road conditions at 511 and prepare for winter driving conditions.
