South Carolina’s Coastal Waters Under Dense Fog Advisory

Charleston, SC – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for coastal waters from South Santee River to Edisto Beach until 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston.

The advisory warns that visibility will be reduced to 1/2 nautical mile, creating navigation challenges for mariners. While some improvement may occur later in the evening, fog may redevelop overnight, increasing risks for vessels operating offshore.

Boaters are advised to exercise caution, use fog signals, and ensure navigation lights are on. The NWS urges mariners to rely on radar and compasses, as changing conditions could significantly reduce visibility without warning.
