Hastings, NE – Breezy winds and low humidity are creating dangerous fire weather conditions across south-central Nebraska today. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 6 p.m., with near-critical to critical conditions expected, particularly along and north of Interstate 80.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will gust between 20 and 25 mph this afternoon, combined with relative humidity as low as 15%. Areas with dry vegetation and gusty conditions are highly susceptible to fires spreading rapidly. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and exercise caution with equipment that could spark flames.

The outlook improves slightly by Tuesday, with calmer winds and higher humidity. However, sunny skies and dry conditions persist through the week, keeping fire risks elevated. Highs will remain in the low 50s, with nighttime lows in the 20s. Rain chances increase Thursday, offering some relief.
