South Dakota – Bitter cold continues to grip the state, with dangerously low wind chills of -25°F to -40°F expected through Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory until noon Tuesday, warning of frostbite risks within 10 minutes of exposure. Residents should limit time outdoors and dress in layers to stay warm.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chills will remain severe overnight into Tuesday morning, especially in areas like Sioux Falls, Watertown, and Mitchell. Snow chances will increase Tuesday night, with a 30% chance of light snow expected. Roads, including I-29 and I-90, could become slick as temperatures fluctuate between -25°F wind chills and highs nearing 19°F.

By Wednesday, light snow will persist across central and eastern South Dakota. Highs will climb into the 30s, offering temporary relief from the deep freeze. However, breezy conditions will maintain a biting wind chill.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday bring slightly warmer conditions, with highs in the 20s and 30s. Flurries may linger Thursday morning, while Friday will remain overcast but dry.

Residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbors, ensure pets are indoors, and avoid extended travel during severe wind chill periods. For updates, visit the National Weather Service website or tune in to local alerts.
