Sioux Falls, SD – A winter weather advisory is in effect Monday for parts of South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska, bringing snow accumulations of up to 5 inches and hazardous road conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sioux Falls, the advisory affects northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and southeastern South Dakota. Snow is expected to begin as early as 8 a.m. and continue through midnight. Areas including Sioux City, Sioux Falls, and Vermillion could see between 1 to 5 inches of snow.
Roads may become slippery, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Officials urge drivers to slow down and use caution while traveling. Motorists can check road conditions by dialing 511.
The snowfall could create difficult travel conditions, with visibility reduced at times. Temperatures will remain cold, increasing the potential for ice buildup on untreated surfaces.
Drivers should plan for extra travel time and stay updated on changing weather conditions. Those in affected areas should prepare for winter driving conditions and avoid unnecessary travel if roads become treacherous.
For the latest updates, residents can monitor local forecasts and check with state transportation departments for road conditions.
