Brownsville, TX – A freeze warning and cold weather advisory remain in effect across Deep South Texas as temperatures are expected to drop as low as 22°F overnight, accompanied by wind chills as low as 17°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Brownsville, the warning is in place until 9 a.m. Wednesday and covers areas including McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville, and the Rio Grande Valley. Frost and freeze conditions pose a threat to crops, sensitive plants, and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents are urged to cover plants, wrap pipes, and allow faucets to drip to prevent freezing. Pets should be brought indoors or provided with warm, dry shelter and unfrozen water.
Prolonged exposure to cold wind chills can cause hypothermia. Officials recommend dressing warmly, including hats and gloves, when going outside.
The cold weather advisory warns of potential impacts to agriculture and infrastructure. Temperatures are expected to rise after mid-morning Wednesday, but residents are encouraged to monitor updates for additional cold weather alerts in the coming days.
