Ripley, IN – Southeast Indiana is bracing for a blast of extreme cold expected to arrive late Sunday night, with temperatures plunging as low as -5 degrees. Wind chills could make it feel as cold as -15 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The Extreme Cold Watch is in effect from Sunday night through Wednesday morning, impacting Ripley, Dearborn, Ohio, and Switzerland counties. Surrounding areas in northern Kentucky and southern Ohio are also under the advisory. The cold snap raises the risk of ruptured water pipes and frostbite for anyone outdoors for extended periods.

Residents are urged to take precautions, such as wrapping or draining water pipes and allowing faucets to drip to prevent freezing. Officials recommend avoiding unnecessary travel during the coldest periods and checking on vulnerable neighbors.

The cold front is expected to persist through mid-week, with Tuesday morning predicted to be the coldest. Preparations should be completed before temperatures drop Sunday evening.
