Southern California city receives massive $14 million grant to build electric vehicle charging stations
San Bernardino is set to construct more than 100 new electric vehicle charging stations after it received a federal grant, the city announced.
The grant, which comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, totals more than $14 million. With that money, the city will build 101 charging stations spread across 15 locations.
“This grant propels San Bernardino toward a greener, more resilient future,” said Mayor Helen Tran. “By adding over 100 community EV charging stations, we are not only improving access to sustainable transportation but reaffirming our dedication to environmental progress and community growth.”
The locations that will receive the new charging stations throughout San Bernardino include:
- Six parks/community centers
- A soccer complex
- The main library
- City Hall
- The Police Department
- The City Yard
- Several downtown parking location
The grant was given out as part of the Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Program. In all, there were 49 recipients of the grant across the nation, including six in California.
The other California organizations receiving the EV charging station grant include the cities of San Jose, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and San Francisco, as well as the State Energy Resources Conservation and Development Commission.
San Bernardino was the only Southern California organization to receive it.
