Grand Rapids, MI –

A winter storm warning remains in effect for portions of southwest and west-central Michigan until 10 a.m. Thursday. The storm is expected to deliver heavy lake-effect snow and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, affected areas include Muskegon, Ottawa, and Newaygo counties, with snowfall accumulations ranging from 4 to 9 inches. Winds gusting up to 35 mph will create whiteout conditions, reducing visibility to under 1/4 mile at times.

Commuters should expect significant disruptions during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning rush hours. Officials advise drivers to avoid travel if possible and to carry emergency supplies, such as a flashlight, food, and water, in their vehicles.

The storm marks one of the season’s most impactful weather events for the region, with conditions particularly dangerous along lake-effect snow bands. Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and monitor updates from local authorities.

For the latest road conditions, check Michigan’s travel information service at Mi Drive. Stay indoors and exercise caution if heading outside during the storm.
