State Farm pulls Super Bowl commercial, shifts focus to supporting L.A. wildfire victims
State Farm has decided to pull its Super Bowl commercial and instead focus on supporting Los Angeles residents impacted by the deadly wildfires.
“Our focus is firmly on providing support to the people of Los Angeles. We will not be advertising during the game as originally planned,” the company confirmed in an emailed statement to KTLA.
State Farm ran a commercial that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito during last year’s Super Bowl. The commercial won USA Today’s annual popularity contest for Super Bowl ads.
The news comes after the insurance company, the largest in California, decided to offer renewals to residential policyholders affected by the deadly wildfires across Los Angeles County instead of dropping them.
State Farm’s decision applies to policies held by homeowners, owners of rental dwellings, and residential community associations, including condominium associations.
According to the company, it has received over 7,850 home and auto claims and returned around $50 million to customers. State Farm expects those numbers to increase as residents return and assess damage.
Last March, State Farm announced plans to drop about 30,000 property insurance and 42,000 commercial apartment policies in California. That followed the company’s 2023 decision to stop accepting new insurance applications for all business and personal property in the state.
So far, other insurance companies haven’t announced plans to offer renewals to policyholders impacted by the wildfires. It’s also unclear if more companies plan to pull away from the game due to the fires.
