Surprise Payday for New Yorkers! Inflation Refund Checks Coming Soon
NEW YORK – Gov. Kathy Hochul said that New York will send out its first-ever inflation refund checks soon after a deal was reached with the state budget late Monday night.
The refund was first talked about in December. Hochul says more than 8 million people in New York can get up to $400 per family.
Before, the checks were thought to be worth between $300 and $500, based on the person’s income. Hochul said the checks were paid for by sales tax money that came in more than expected.
“I promised the people of New York that I would fight hard to get their money back and make our subways and streets safer.” “This budget will do just that,” Hochul said in a statement. “We’ve come to an agreement with our legislative partners to pass a budget that is balanced and good for the budget.” It takes time for good things to happen, but this budget will really help people in New York.
People in New York don’t know when they’ll get their checks because the $254 billion state budget is still being voted on. Hochul said it’s possible that things will change because of what the Trump administration has done.
The budget also includes a plan to ban cell phones in schools.
