Suspect arrested after man found shot in downtown Riverside

A suspect was arrested after a man was found shot in downtown Riverside.

The suspect was identified as Hector Alfonso Sanchez Torres, 26, according to the Riverside Police Department. 

On March 30, Torres and the victim, identified only as an adult male, were involved in an altercation of some sort. 

Torres allegedly drove along a busy area near University Avenue near Main Street before opening fire at the victim before fleeing the scene, police said.

Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to his leg. The man was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Detectives from the Gang Intelligence Unit, Narcotics Unit, and the METRO Team investigated the shooting and later identified Torres as the suspected gunman.

Torres was located in the Home Gardens community of unincorporated Riverside County where he was taken into custody. He was arrested for attempted murder and is being held on $1 million bail.

“This shooting occurred in a busy area, and there may be witnesses who have not yet come forward,” officers said.
