Suspect arrested after shooting leaves person hospitalized in Riverside County

A suspect was arrested after a shooting left a person hospitalized in Riverside County.

On Feb. 26, the victim arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound injury. No suspect was found after the shooter fled the scene.

Palm Desert sheriff’s deputies began investigating the case and later identified the suspected gunman as Alexander Puentes-Rivera, 22, of Palm Desert. 

A search warrant was served at his home where authorities found several firearms, including unserialized guns. 

Puentes-Rivera and an unidentified 17-year-old suspect were both arrested at the home.

Puentes-Rivera was arrested for possession of an assault rifle. The teenager was booked at juvenile hall for possession of an illegal firearm.

No further details, including the victim’s name or the circumstances surrounding the shooting, were released. It’s unclear whether the victim and the suspect were known to each other.
