Suspect wanted for sexual assault, punching elderly woman in South Los Angeles
Police are searching for a man who allegedly punched an elderly woman and sexually assaulted another woman in a South L.A. grocery store.
The incident happened on Aug. 25, 2024 at a store on the 2600 block of South Vermont Avenue at around 11:13 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim, a 32-year-old woman, said she was sexually assaulted by the suspect while shopping.
The man allegedly followed her throughout the store before suddenly walking up behind her and inappropriately grabbing her, police said.
As he fled the store, he punched an elderly woman in the chest before driving away from the area.
On March 25, police released surveillance footage that captured the man walking around the grocery store during the alleged incidents.
He is described as a Hispanic man around 30 years old. He stands 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 230 pounds.
He has black hair and was last seen wearing thick glasses and a burgundy-colored windbreaker with a “Wake & Bake” logo on the back. His vehicle is a two-door white-colored sedan with a black hood and a spoiler on the trunk.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward.
“The residents of Los Angeles, our friends and family members, should be free from this behavior,” said LAPD Detective Robert Smey, a Southwest Division Sexual Assault Investigator. “I encourage anyone with information about the suspect’s identification to come forward.”
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call LAPD’s Southwest Division at 323-290-2976.
