Syracuse, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. Thursday, impacting Onondaga, Madison, and Southern Oneida Counties. Lake effect snow is expected, with total accumulations ranging from 3 to 7 inches, accompanied by wind gusts up to 35 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory warns of hazardous travel conditions during Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Rapid weather changes are expected, as lake effect snow can cause significant visibility reductions within localized snow bands. Residents should prepare for delays and difficult road conditions.

Snowfall will begin Tuesday afternoon, intensifying through the evening. Madison County is forecasted to see the highest accumulations, particularly in higher elevations. Winds will exacerbate conditions, creating blowing snow that could further hinder visibility.

Travelers are urged to slow down and drive cautiously. The state’s 511 hotline is available for up-to-date road conditions. Local authorities recommend carrying emergency supplies, such as blankets and water, in case of travel delays.

The advisory serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of lake effect snow. While some areas may experience heavy accumulation, others just a few miles away could see dry conditions. Drivers should remain vigilant and prepared for abrupt changes in weather.

The Winter Weather Advisory will end early Thursday morning as snow diminishes and winds subside.
