Nashville, TN – Residents in Middle Tennessee should prepare for bitterly cold weather and possible snow starting Sunday and continuing into midweek. Dangerous wind chills of 0 to -10 degrees are forecast for Monday morning, with freezing temperatures persisting through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville, snow showers could begin Saturday night, bringing up to an inch on the Cumberland Plateau and light dustings across the region. However, the primary concern is the drop in temperatures, which could reach the single digits by Monday, making frostbite a real danger for those exposed to the elements.
Drivers on major roadways like I-40 and I-65 should exercise caution. The combination of icy conditions and gusty winds could create hazardous travel starting Sunday. Those commuting early Monday morning are advised to bundle up and allow extra time for travel.
The extended forecast shows highs dropping to 25°F on Martin Luther King Jr. Day with clear skies. By Monday night, lows could reach 15°F before rebounding to 29°F on Tuesday. Temperatures won’t climb above freezing until Wednesday, with sunny conditions and a high of 34°F.
NWS recommends checking on vulnerable individuals, protecting pets, and insulating exposed pipes to prevent freezing damage. Emergency kits with blankets and extra supplies are also encouraged for those traveling during the cold snap.
