Nashville, TN – A strong storm system is set to bring heavy rainfall to Tennessee, Kentucky, and surrounding areas on Saturday, February 15, increasing the risk of flash and river flooding.

According to the NOAA NWS Weather Prediction Center, a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) for excessive rainfall has been issued for parts of Tennessee and Kentucky, where rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches, with locally higher totals, are expected. This could lead to widespread flash flooding and significant river flooding in the affected areas.

The greatest threat for heavy rain and flooding will occur Saturday through Saturday night, impacting cities including Nashville, Louisville, and Lexington. Southern Ohio and West Virginia could also see heavy rain and flooding conditions.

Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor forecasts closely, prepare for potential evacuations, and avoid traveling through flooded roadways. NOAA warns that isolated major river flooding is possible, especially in central and eastern Kentucky, southwest Virginia, and northern Tennessee.
