Midland, TX – A High Wind Warning has been issued for parts of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico, including the Guadalupe Mountains, due to expected strong winds on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Midland/Odessa, the warning is in effect from 9 a.m. MST (10 a.m. CST) to 10 p.m. MST (11 p.m. CST) on Thursday. Winds are expected to reach 35 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph.

The affected areas include Guadalupe Mountains of Eddy County, Eddy County Plains, Eastern Culberson, Davis Mountains, and Davis Mountains Foothills, covering cities such as Carlsbad, Artesia, Alpine, and Fort Davis.

Impact and Safety Precautions:

• Travel will be hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles like RVs, trucks, and vans.
• Severe turbulence is expected near the mountains, posing risks to low-flying aircraft.
• Blowing dust may reduce visibility, making driving conditions dangerous.

Drivers of large vehicles are advised to delay travel if possible, especially through the Guadalupe Mountains. Pilots should avoid low-altitude flights near mountain ranges due to potential turbulence.

Residents should secure outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel in high wind areas. The NWS urges caution until winds subside late Thursday night.
