Amarillo, TX – The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of the western Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST Wednesday due to strong winds and low relative humidity.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include Cimarron County in Oklahoma and Dallam, Hartley, Oldham, and Deaf Smith counties in Texas. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, combined with humidity levels as low as 11%, create conditions that could lead to rapid fire spread.
Residents are urged to avoid activities that generate open flames or sparks. The Red Flag Warning replaces the previously issued Fire Weather Watch.
