Texas Panhandle Wildfire Prompts Mandatory Evacuations in Hutchinson County

Borger, TX – A fast-moving wildfire near Lake Meredith has forced a mandatory evacuation for the Bugbee community, officials announced Saturday afternoon.

According to the Hutchinson County Office of Emergency Management, the fire was first reported around 2:21 p.m., approximately 12 miles west of Borger. Fueled by dry conditions and gusty winds, the fire is moving northeast at 3 to 5 mph, posing an immediate threat to life and property.

Authorities have issued a mandatory evacuation order for Bugbee residents, urging them to seek shelter at Celebration Church in Fritch. Roads potentially affected include FM 3395, RM 1319, and Spur 687.

Officials warn against driving through smoke and advise residents to follow all evacuation instructions. Firefighters continue efforts to contain the blaze as elevated fire conditions persist.
