Texas Weather Alert: Amarillo Sees Freezing Temps Today, Warming Ahead by Friday

Amarillo, TX – Northwest Texas residents woke up to a brisk 21°F Thursday morning, with a wind chill dipping to a biting 11°F. However, warmer temperatures are on the way, offering some relief by Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will remain sunny but cold, with highs near 37°F and northwest wind gusts reaching 20 mph. Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with lows dropping to 21°F and lighter winds shifting southwest. Those traveling along I-40 should prepare for icy conditions during the early morning hours.

By Friday, sunny skies and a high of 52°F will make for a more comfortable afternoon. Winds will shift to the southwest, gusting up to 25 mph. Friday night sees increasing clouds and a low of 25°F, as gusts taper off.

Looking ahead, Saturday promises partly sunny conditions with a high near 39°F. Northeast winds will stay steady at 10 to 15 mph. Sunday brings even better conditions, with a high of 42°F under mostly sunny skies. Nights will remain cold throughout the weekend, with lows ranging from 20°F to 25°F.

Residents should remain cautious of fluctuating road conditions in the mornings and prepare for sudden gusts when traveling. Keep winter gear handy and check local forecasts for updates.
