Toni Braxton and Cedric The Entertainer bring ‘Love & Laughter’ to Sin City
Toni Braxton and Cedric The Entertainer are combining their talents for a music and comedy limited engagement in Las Vegas appropriately called “Love & Laughter.”
After a successful run last April, it’s returning to Sin City just in time for Valentine’s Day.
As they prepare to hit the stage for the most romantic weekend of the year, they are looking forward to the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX this Sunday.
Braxton, who hails from Maryland, is showing love to the East Coast and rooting for the Eagles. The Missouri-born Cedric is cheering for the Chiefs, but he does have an appreciation for one of the star players on the opposing team.
“I met Saqon (Barkley) before, he’s a great guy and he’s had this amazing season so if he wins that’s great but Patrick Mahomes is one of these people that’s hard to bet against,” Cedric explained to KTLA 5’s Andy Riesmeyer. “He’s one of those guys, got that GOAT energy.”
Preparing to perform at halftime of the Super Bowl is something Braxton knows all too well.
In 2000, the chart-topping singer performed alongside Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias and Edward James Olmos for the Disney-produced halftime show for Super Bowl XXXIV at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
She said the days leading up to the big show are full of “rehearsal” and “anxiety” over wanting it to be perfect.
The “Un-Break My Heart” singer did offer some advice for Kendrick Lamar, who is this year’s headliner: “Have fun.”
Having fun is something both entertainers know how to do, which translates into their Las Vegas engagement.
“We’ve been doing this a long time, looking for something fun to do. This idea came to us, Vegas was looking for something different,” Cedric explained. “Just the fact that we can walk out and bring you a Sonny and Cher, a Donny and Marie type show that you hadn’t seen in a while and make it fresh and that’s what we do. We have a good time onstage together and people enjoy it.”
While Braxton is known for the vocals and Cedric brings the jokes, don’t think the two stay in their proverbial lanes.
“Cedric sings. I make him sing onstage,” the seven-time Grammy singer revealed about her cohost. She even called his voice “beautiful.”
“(It’s) very Barry White, very Lou Rawls,” “The Neighborhood” actor said.
The “Another Sad Love Song” singer also cracks some jokes albeit “mommy jokes,” but she said she feels good about it.
While the show started in Vegas, the pair hope to eventually take it on the road.
In the meantime, you can see their Las Vegas engagement “Love & Laughter,” at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Feb.14 and 15, May 9 and 10 and July 11 and 12.
