Tornado Risk in Central Texas: Storms Expected Overnight into Thursday

Austin, TX – Severe storms will impact Central Texas late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Residents in Austin and San Antonio should prepare for damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service, storms will begin around midnight, starting west of the Hill Country. The highest risk for severe weather extends from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m. The storms will move east, reaching Austin and San Antonio between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Heavy rain could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas. Forecasters warn that wind gusts may exceed 60 mph, with isolated tornadoes possible. The strongest storms are expected over the Hill Country and the Edwards Plateau.

Officials advise securing outdoor items, monitoring weather alerts, and having a safety plan. If warnings are issued, take shelter immediately.
