OCEANSIDE, Calif. – Two motorcyclists from Oceanside met with a tragic accident on Saturday morning near the border of Orange County and San Diego County on Interstate 5. Unfortunately, one of them lost their life in the incident, as confirmed by authorities.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the incident at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, at the northbound I-5 location just south of the U.S. Border Patrol Checkpoint at San Onofre.
The accident involved a 20-year-old rider on a black Yamaha motorcycle who was following a 22-year-old rider on a Honda CBR600 motorcycle. The circumstances leading to the collision are still under investigation. However, it was determined that the Yamaha rider collided with the Honda, resulting in both riders being ejected from their motorcycles.
Tragically, the Yamaha rider was pronounced deceased at the accident scene, while the other rider sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital. Authorities have ruled out alcohol or drug involvement in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased Yamaha rider.
Both motorcyclists were residents of Oceanside, as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol. Authorities have appealed to anyone with information regarding the accident to contact the CHP at 760-643-3400.
