Marquette, MI – Strong winds are sweeping across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula this morning, prompting a wind advisory for several counties until 1 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, Keweenaw and Northern Houghton Counties are experiencing sustained west winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph. In Marquette County, winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts peaking at 45 mph. The advisory was issued to alert residents of potential impacts, including downed tree limbs, scattered power outages, and hazards for high-profile vehicles on the road.
The advisory for Keweenaw and Northern Houghton began earlier and remains in effect, while Marquette County’s advisory is active from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects and exercise caution while driving, especially in exposed or open areas. Drivers of high-profile vehicles, such as trucks and SUVs, should remain particularly vigilant.
