Salt Lake City, UT – A powerful winter storm will impact Utah from Thursday through Saturday, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and travel disruptions. Snow will accumulate in valleys Thursday afternoon, with hazardous conditions expected during the evening commute, especially in the northern Wasatch Front.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will begin with cold air, increasing the chances of valley snow. However, rising temperatures may transition lower elevations to rain by Friday. Mountain snowfall will be heavy, lasting through Saturday.
Gusty winds will accompany the storm, with speeds reaching 55 mph and isolated gusts up to 60 mph in Tooele Valley, Rush Valley, and Western valleys. Wind advisories are in place through Friday morning. High-profile vehicles on I-80 may face travel challenges.
Officials urge residents to secure outdoor objects, prepare for potential power outages, and drive cautiously. Snow-covered roads may create dangerous conditions. Travelers should check weather updates before heading out.
This storm will bring significant snowfall to Utah’s mountains, benefiting ski resorts but complicating travel. The National Weather Service advises residents to stay informed as conditions evolve.
