Salt Lake City, UT – Residents and visitors near Zion National Park and the Glen Canyon Recreation Area are under an Extreme Cold Warning from 11 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service warns of dangerously cold wind chills between 5 and 10 degrees in areas including Big Water, Springdale, and Bullfrog. This includes Zion Main Canyon and regions around Lake Powell, such as Ticaboo.

According to the advisory, frostbite can occur within minutes if skin is exposed to these conditions. Prolonged exposure may also lead to hypothermia. Officials urge people to take precautions, including dressing in layers, covering exposed skin, and limiting outdoor activity.

Residents are advised to protect water pipes by wrapping them or allowing a slow drip. Portable heaters should be used safely, and pets should be kept indoors as much as possible.

The extreme cold poses heightened risks for older adults and those in vulnerable conditions. Frequent check-ins with neighbors and family members are encouraged.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly after the warning ends at 10 a.m. Tuesday. However, caution remains vital during overnight hours.
