Blacksburg, VA – A powerful winter storm is set to hit southwest Virginia and parts of West Virginia starting early Tuesday, bringing heavy snow, significant ice accumulation, and dangerous road conditions. Travel disruptions and widespread power outages are expected through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, snow and sleet totals could reach 6 inches, while ice accumulations may exceed a quarter-inch in some areas. Higher ice amounts are expected along the Blue Ridge. The storm will create treacherous travel conditions on major roadways, including I-81 and U.S. 29, with the Tuesday morning and evening commutes especially dangerous.
