Minneapolis, MN – An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for much of Minnesota through Tuesday, as dangerously cold wind chills are forecast to plunge as low as -45°F in some areas. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity and prepare for hazardous conditions, with frostbite risks escalating after just minutes of exposure.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Twin Cities, the coldest periods will occur Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday mornings. Wind chills during these times are expected to range from -25°F to -45°F, creating life-threatening risks for anyone unprotected. The advisory specifically warns travelers along I-94 and Highway 10 to exercise caution as subzero temperatures will significantly increase the potential for roadside emergencies.

Today’s high will reach only 8°F under sunny skies, with wind chill values remaining between -14°F and -31°F throughout the day. Tonight’s low is forecasted to plummet to -12°F, with gusty northwest winds further lowering the apparent temperature.

Sunday will bring similar conditions, with highs near 1°F and wind chill values dropping as low as -33°F in the Twin Cities. Monday night, temperatures could reach -17°F, with frostbite possible in under 10 minutes. A gradual warming trend is expected by midweek, with highs climbing back to the 20s by Wednesday.

Residents are advised to stay indoors whenever possible, bundle up in layers, and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles. Frostbite and hypothermia precautions should be taken seriously. For updated forecasts and safety tips, visit weather.gov.
