Charleston, WV – A cold weather advisory takes effect tonight as snow showers could create slick roads in the higher elevations. Light snow flurries are expected to taper off by morning, but temperatures will remain low throughout the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory begins at 7 p.m. Friday and will continue until 8 a.m. Saturday. Low temperatures tonight will dip to the single digits in higher elevations, with Charleston expected to see a low near 18°F. Drivers should be cautious on mountain roads and other exposed areas, particularly on US Route 60 and I-77.
The weekend forecast offers some relief, with sunny skies and slightly warmer daytime highs. Saturday will bring sunshine with a high near 41°F, though nighttime temperatures could fall to 29°F. Sunday’s high will reach 40°F, accompanied by partly cloudy skies. Winds are expected to remain light throughout the weekend, providing more comfortable outdoor conditions.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will see continued sunshine with highs in the low-to-mid 40s, offering a mild stretch to start the work week. However, a cold front is anticipated by midweek, with temperatures dropping again by Wednesday.
Residents are encouraged to bundle up, monitor local weather updates, and plan ahead for potentially icy road conditions tonight.
