Lubbock, TX – High winds and blowing dust are set to sweep through West Texas on Friday, prompting weather advisories across multiple regions. Residents should prepare for gusts reaching up to 55 mph.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lubbock, the Wind Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST Friday. Areas impacted include Lubbock, Floydada, and Plainview. Gusty west winds of 25 to 35 mph, with occasional bursts up to 50 mph, are expected to affect driving conditions, especially on north-south-oriented roads.

Blowing dust could reduce visibility, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and residents. Unsecured outdoor items, such as patio furniture and trash cans, could be displaced by the strong winds. The advisory also warns of potential minor power outages.

Similar conditions are forecast for other parts of West Texas, including San Angelo, where a Wind Advisory will be active from noon to 8 p.m. CST Friday. Wind speeds are expected to peak at 40 mph in areas like Abilene and Sweetwater.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to exercise caution, particularly in open areas and mountainous regions. The NWS also recommends securing loose outdoor objects and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak wind hours.

Friday’s wind conditions highlight the importance of preparedness during volatile weather in West Texas. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the NWS for the latest weather developments.
