Beckley, WV – A powerful winter storm is set to hit West Virginia early Tuesday, bringing heavy snow, ice, and dangerous road conditions through Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will begin around 4 a.m. Tuesday and last until 11 a.m. Wednesday. Expected snowfall ranges from 4 to 7 inches, with up to a quarter-inch of ice accumulation. Power outages and tree damage are likely, and travel could become nearly impossible, especially along major highways like I-64 and I-79.
Drivers should avoid travel if possible. If driving is necessary, carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water. Road conditions can be checked via West Virginia’s 511 system or local traffic updates.
Temperatures will remain below freezing, making roads slick even after precipitation ends. Another system could bring additional snow later this week, keeping travel hazardous.
Residents should prepare for potential outages by charging devices and stocking up on essentials. Stay updated through the National Weather Service website and local news stations.
